Dr. Paul Finkel has had a long-time association with New West Symphony as an extraordinarily generous steward of music. A devoted board member and past president, Paul has served in several leadership roles utilizing his expertise and passion for the arts to accomplish his vision to make music accessible to all. Exposed to symphonic music at an early age, at home and in school, is at the root of Paul's mission to make sure young children have the same opportunities he had growing up.

When first becoming involved with the board, Paul began to appreciate that a significant amount of support is needed from caring community members. The privilege of music education and other enriching programs does not come easily. Ticket prices and subscriptions only cover 25% of the overall costs. The fact that children would not receive music education during their formative years without New West Symphony was astonishing to him. He is adamant in making sure others know this and how the benefits of music extend far beyond the pure joy of entertainment. It has the power to strengthen and create vibrant communities with studies illustrating multiple positive effects. These include: Enhanced school retention, reduced crime, economic benefits (ie. real estate values, employee attraction and retention), health care improvement and heightened general aesthetic values.

Dr. Finkel invites others to join him in finding ways to reduce the burden of fundraising and give in meaningful ways within their means. "If you enjoy the symphony, pay it forward and give what you can annually." Even if one is not able to contribute substantially now, he is optimistic about future gifts that may come with the growth of the new legacy society. "By donating a portion of my estate, I am creating a 'living legacy' like a tree that takes root and is enduring. I hope to lead by example and inspire others to do the same."
